The following is an article written especially for this blog by Steven Wagenheim, one of the Senior Warrior Members of the Warrior Forum.  I’m indebted to Steven, who has contributed some of the more genuinely insightful commentaries on what it takes to become a successful internet marketer.  I have found his unapolagetically matter of fact approach to educating new marketers as to the right mindset refreshing.  From personal experience, I think it’s important to appreciate that by obtaining the right frame of mind and realistic expectations,  we can then move forward with purpose and focus, and avoid floundering in the sea of would be marketers.

This straight to the point article is going to give you a pretty clear picture of what it REALLY takes to be successful as an Internet marketer. I have no doubt that the words to follow are going to rub a few people the wrong way. The truth usually does that. Well, better you know now than find out down the road. Making money online is no cakewalk. After you’re done reading, you’ll know why.

For starters, you need a solid work ethic. I’m not talking about, “Oh, I’ll put in a couple of hours when I get home from my real job.” That’s not going to cut it. If you treat your business like a hobby, that’s all you’re going to get out of it…hobby income…if that. If you want to get a full time income from working online, then you have to work it…full time.In addition to that, you need to be VERY organized. Making money online isn’t a simple matter of slapping together some cheesy web site and sending out a few ads. The amount of work involved is so mind boggling that it is very easy to lose track of things. So top notch organizational skills are a must. A great memory helps but if you don’t have it…write it down. Write EVERYTHING down. Don’t go scratching your head wondering what’s next.

You’re also going to need to develop killer writing skills. I’m not saying you have to be a top notch copywriter or anything like that, but almost everything you do, in relation to your business, comes down to writing. Your sales copy, your email ads, your autoresponder content, the articles you write, even the replies you send to prospects who ask you questions. Think you won’t get them? Think again. And if your answers are not clear and concise, you’re not going to get many sales. What about just plain knowledge…especially knowledge of advertising tactics? You can’t even begin to imagine how much is involved with running a business. You have web design, Adwords, web 2.0, forums, and on and on. The amount of information that you’ll need to absorb in order to run a business is astronomical. You could spend a small fortune alone just educating yourself. And guess what? You better, or you’re going to be so lost.

Then there’s money. There’s very little you can do without spending at least some money. Even list building is going to cost you $20 a month for an autoresponder. Oh, what’s that you say? You can get a free one? Well good luck when you find out that almost none of your emails are getting delivered. Then when you find that to go to a good service like Aweber means that these people have to opt in again and you end up losing half of them, you’re going to be crying in your beer…or whatever it is you’re drinking.

The above only scratches a very small surface of what it takes to be successful. I haven’t even gotten into the importance of product creation, networking with others, constant research of trends, and on and on.

Maybe this is why 95% of the people who try to make a living online give up in 3 months or worse…never give up and never get anywhere.

Want to be in the other 5%?

The advice in this article should get you off to a very good start…if you listen to it.

To YOUR Success,
